Exploring Port Blair

The Day started with exploring the famous Cellular Jail. Cellular Jail ( Kaala Pani) – was built by the Britishers to exile the prisoners who rebelled against them during India’s fight for Independence. The construction of this jail started in 1896 and was finished by 1906. The original building of the Cellular Jail had seven wings and a centre tower. Now only two wings remain.

We hired a guide at Cellular Jail.  After listening to the horrific stories of the Jail and the way prisoners were tortured, we were really shocked.

From the centre tower, one can get the views of Neil Island and Ross Island too.

After exploring the Cellular Jail, we went to the Anthropological Museum. It shows history of the tribes living in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Samudrika Museum is a good place displaying different kinds of corals, live fishes, shells etc. It is a good place for shopping too.
