Fun at the Eden Gardens!

The cricket fever is on. First, it was the World Cup where India created history by winning it and now it is the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is gaining momentum. This is the fourth season of IPL. In the first three seasons, there were eight teams. Now, the number has increased to ten. I have been supporting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) since the first season, because I am a fan of Shahrukh Khan – the owner. To support the team, this time I had gone to watch two matches - Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), both played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The idea of watching a cricket match live in the stadium is really very exciting. Until last month, I had only heard about the experiences of people who have done so but this time I experienced it myself. It was truly an awesome experience. We know that cricket is a religion in India. The obsession for cricket can be seen in IPL too. When we reached the stadium, two hours before the match, it had a deserted look with very few people.

Two hours before the match

But when the match started, the stadium was almost full with around 50,000 spectators.

Spectators at KKR vs RR match
The atmosphere at the stadium was splendid, with frequent Mexican waves and humming of the word “KKR”. I was glad to participate in the support for the home team and really enjoyed it. The win against RR made me really happy. The team lost against RCB due to an astonishing batting by Chris Gayle.

KKR vs. RCB
When the match against RCB was over, I could see Shahrukh Khan playing with his son Aryan. I was very happy to see him.

I am glad that for this season, KKR has bought some good players and I really hope that his team performs well.

All the best KKR!!!!
